Cyber is where I see the biggest gap between what providers sell and what they actually do. Ask about their layered approach to cybersecurity: endpoint protection, identity, email security, employee training, and incident response. If you operate in a regulated industry, ask about their compliance experience with frameworks like HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CMMC, or NIST. A good partner will already have a process for this. A bad one will start Googling while you are still on the call.
What Does Your Network Assessment Look Like?
Any managed services provider worth hiring should start with a real network assessment. Not a sales pitch dressed up as a discovery call. Ask what they review, what they document, and what they hand you at the end. You should walk away with a clear picture of your computer network, your security gaps, and a prioritized roadmap.
Who Owns Our Data and Systems?
This one is overlooked all the time. Ask who owns the documentation, the cloud tenants, the licenses, and the admin credentials. If you ever decide to switch providers, you need to be able to walk away with everything.
